Lake Pontchartrain Women’s Sailing Association
Sailing For Women, By Women
The Lake Pontchartrain Women’s Sailing Association (LPWSA) is the only sailing group for women, by women in New Orleans. Our members are women, men, and youth who share the goal of increasing female participation in sailing. The LPWSA includes members from yacht clubs and boating organizations on Lake Pontchartrain, as well as, women across the gulf coast region who are not affiliated with another sailing club in New Orleans.
Through the LPWSA network, numerous members have been placed as crew on sailboats based in New Orleans, Louisiana and the greater gulf coast. Members have made new friends, become valuable crew, joined yacht clubs, and some have even gone on to skipper their own sailboats and give lessons.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed in the things that you didn’t do than the ones you did do, so throw off the bow lines.”Mark Twain
LPWSA invites anyone that shares the LPWSA goals to become a member! Curious about how LPWSA membership can benefit you? Check our ‘What We Do’ page to learn about the benefits we offer to members including racing, education, and outreach opportunities.
LPWSA helps place women, as well as men, as crew on boats participating in local regattas. LPWSA also encourages women to serve on race committee and helm of their own boats in competition.
It is the goal of LPWSA to provide educational opportunities that offer valuable training tips and build individual confidence and knowledge in sailing. LPWSA educational workshops are designed for all levels of sailing experience.
The Lake Pontchartrain Women’s Sailing Association is the first sailing club in the Gulf Coast region to offer AdventureSail®, a sailing-based mentor program for at-risk girls between the ages of 9 to 14.
