NOTES FROM THE COMMODOR;
General Membership Meeting
The LPWSA Semi-annual general membership meeting was held in June at NOYC.
After a brief business meeting in which our nominating committee for December’s
election was selected, we had an introduction to the basic rules of match racing
and watched video of the Louis Vitton Cup. Jeanne Winters is coordinating the
nominations for 2008. If you are interested in serving LPWSA, please let her know!
Upcoming events
The three women’s races in AL/FL have begun. The Fast Women regatta was held July 14th,
and I’m proud to report that Elaine Boos skippered her J-24 Siren to victory in the spinnaker
fleet. Her crew had several LPWSA members. This weekend is the Bikini Cup at Navy Yacht Club.
Aug 3-4th is the Race for the Roses at Pensacola Beach Yacht Club. I know Elaine is trying to win
the Trilogy trophy which is awarded to the spinnaker boat (with all-women) that performs the best
in all three regattas. I have received some information about boats looking for crew for the Roses
event. If you are interested, please contact PBYC. We will post web-links for both events.
In August, LPWSA would like to encourage you to participate in the Pamela Sintes Memorial Regatta
on Aug 24-25th hosted by South Shore Yacht Club. There is no entry fee for this PHRF,
women-skipper regatta; however, each boat is requested to provide a gift card or cash donation
of $20 for the Crescent House, a shelter for abused women.
On September 22-23rd the Coco Seemann Regatta will be sailed in J22s with all-women crew.
We are trying to organize a one-day Road to Rolex clinic to be held on Friday, September 21st.
Please stay tuned (or ask) for more details.
The Pink Ribbon Regatta will be held October 14th. This “fun”d-raiser for the Louisiana Breast
Cancer Task Force is one of the premier events of the LPWSA. We are currently taking donations
for our silent auction and party. We encourage everyone to sail! If you are also interested in helping
with the project, please let me know.
Finally, in early December, we will have our General Membership meeting (with elections)
and a Holiday party.
Hope to see everyone soon!
